How to pack and hang your art: A guide for artists
Welcome to the 21st Annual Art Show! We want to help make sure your art arrives safely and is displayed beautifully. Please follow these simple steps to protect your artwork while transporting it and hanging it at the show.
Packing your art

Step 1: Wrap your art
-
Use bubble wrap or soft cloth to cover your art.
-
Place masking tape in an X across glass surfaces to help contain shards if the glass breaks.
-
Make sure the entire piece is covered in foam, bubble wrap or paper to protect the surface.
Tip: If your artwork is on canvas, make sure the front is covered to avoid any pressure on the painting.

Step 2: Secure with tape
Once your art is wrapped, use masking tape or painters’ tape to secure the wrap.

Make sure the tape does not touch the artwork directly.

Step 3: Place in a box or protective bag
Place your art in a sturdy box or art portfolio.

If you don't have a box, use a garbage bag to keep it safe from dirt and moisture.
Transporting your art
Carefully hold your artwork: Always support the bottom and sides when carrying.
Keep upright: When possible, keep the art standing up like a book to avoid bending.

Hanging your art in the gallery

Step 1: Attach Hanging Hardware
-
For canvas artwork: Use D-rings on the back of the canvas, or a strong wire across the top (make sure the wire is tied securely).
-
For framed artwork: Attach sawtooth hangers or D-rings to the frame (the top edge of the frame should have the hardware).
Tip: Always use the right hardware to avoid damaging your art.

Step 2: Double Check Placement
Measure how far down the wall you want your art to hang.

If your artwork has a wire, make sure the wire is stretched tightly between the D-rings.

Tip: A helper can hold the art while you check its height.

Step 3: Hanging Your Art
The Art Show committee members and volunteers can help with hanging your artwork if requested, but here's how it works:
-
Use a level to make sure your art is straight.
-
Use nails or picture hooks to hang the art carefully on the wall.
-
Place your art gently on the hook, and check to ensure it is stable.
-
Affix your artist biography to the wall near your pieces with the double sided 3-M gel squares provided the day of set up.
Important Tips to Keep in Mind

-
Do not use tape directly on the artwork.
-
Use proper support when carrying or transporting your art.
-
Keep fragile art safe: If your artwork has glass or is very delicate, make sure it’s well-padded and securely wrapped.
-
Check for damage: Before leaving the show, check your artwork for any signs of damage.

We hope these tips help make the process easier and safer! Enjoy the art show and thank you for sharing your work!
